Song of the Week — A Tribute to Fridays

This week’s song is an oldie, but goodie — Friday I’m in Love by The Cure.  As always, lyrics provided by LyricWiki:

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Saturday, wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitates

I don’t care if Monday’s black
Tuesday, Wednesday heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Oh Thursday watch the walls instead
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Saturday, wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitates

Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
As sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It’s such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It’s Friday, I’m in love

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday, I’m in love

I’m having a particularly rough week at work, so Friday couldn’t come any faster.  Of course, I doubt that my Friday will be like your Friday (viz. to be followed by two days of relaxation), so I may have to play this song next Friday instead.  At least, by the time I leave work, it’ll be late enough that I’ll get a seat on the Metro.  Nothing like looking at the glass half full, right?  It’s like if I became homeless and I found a nice clean bundle of newspapers to lay on the ground underneath a bridge to sleep.  Or if I attempted to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge and missed the water and found myself lying on a net designed to prevent people like me from perishing.  Or if I was hit by a car on a bike and I only broke one of my legs.  Ahh!  So much to be thankful for!

TGIF

When I think of TGIF, I unfortunately think of the ABC marketing of its Friday evening sit-coms in the 1980s and early 90s. You know what I’m talking about. The deadly combo of Full House and Family Matters (and also included Step by Step, Perfect Strangers, and Just the Ten of Us). I remember Uncle Jesse crooning with the Beach Boys and Steve Urkel pulling up his suspenders.  Which reminds me, I went to college with Urkel.  Actually had him in a history class, and he was a pretty good looking guy.  Although I couldn’t help but think–imagine hooking up with Urkel.  Take away the geeky glasses, the funky smile, and the pants up to the moobies, and what do you have?  Well, you still have Urkel and “Did I do that?” could lead to some memorable occasions in the bedroom.  I’m just saying.

Speaking of TGIF–whatever happened to Kimmy Gibler?

TGIF

Thank God it’s Friday, and Thank God I Freakin’ drove to work today!  No Metro!  Yayyyyy!  It took me about 20 minutes door to door, and I didn’t have to sanitize my hands or body from the germ-ridden depths of the moving train of incubated hell!  YAY!

What a wonderful way to start off the morning.  I have my soy latte.  I drove to work.  I have New Kids’ Greatest Hits jamming on the iPod.  I haven’t gone outside, so my allergies are in check.  And VL is coming into town tonight, so life is fabulous!

Speaking of New Kids.  There are only 14 more days until they perform on the Today Show.  I am incredibly excited to see my Jonathan get on stage and, after 20 years, finally overcome his anxiety.  For years, I have clung to the few solo shots of his talent (Happy Birthday and Step Five “Don’t you know that the time is riiiggghhhtt!”  Ugh!).  I believe the world will now be exposed to all that is Jonathan.  I have waited with bated breath for the stores to stock their shelves with Jonathan paraphernalia.  To date, I have yet to see any lunch boxes, pins, pillow cases, or mugs.  My mantle has been cleared for the day they make a bobblehead Jonathan.  I will put Jon on my mantle, turn on Happy Birthday, and he will bob with me to the song.  Sigh.  Dreams can come true!

Random Friday thoughts

It’s Friday! TGIF!

May everyone have a fabulous weekend filled with scrumptious food, abundant sunshine, and hopefully, total boredom.

In my old age, I have realized that sometimes, the best weekends are those weekends where, for at least a couple of hours, you are bored out of your freaking mind. If you are utterly and hopelessly bored, it means that you have otherwise fully enjoyed life’s weekend pleasures. My bet is that if you’re bored this weekend, you will have done most, if not all, of the following:

(a) cleared your DVR/Tivo of all shows worth watching, and even watched that awful episode of Shot at Love with Tila Tequila from last year (and watched live TV for the first time in 3 years);

(b) read all the books you’ve been meaning to read, including the poorly written one by a certain adoptee who became famous for living with a billionaire in France (but you remain stunned as to why anyone in their right mind would give this awful book any good reviews because the writing is just so horrendous that you wonder how she got rich and then you realize you’ve made her rich by buying the god-awful book);

(c) ate yourself silly and then threw up because you had 1 tub of ice cream too many;

(d) ran, boxed, cycled, hiked — whatever it is, you did it to excess (which allowed you to do (c));

(e) met up with friends new and old to hang out and pretend that you’re 21 again, until the next morning when you realize that you’re not 21 because you have a splitting hangover and GASP! . . . you woke up at the late hour of 9:30 a.m.;

(f) played Rock Band or Guitar Hero (or the like) until your carpal tunnel flared up again;

(g) watched Campbell’s Stars on Ice.

So, my wish for everyone is to have a great weekend. And most of all, I wish you boredom this weekend.
